GIBSONTON, Fla. (970 WFLA) – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in I-75 Wednesday morning that at one point had all lanes closed SB at Gibsonton Drive during the morning rush hour. UPDATE: FHP said at 8:05, two outside lanes are back open.
Troopers said an ABC Liquors tractor trailer and BMW were heading southbound on I-75 approaching the Alafia River bridge when the two collided in clear conditions around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Troopers said the BMW traveled off the inside shoulder of the bridge and into the Alafia River and the tractor trailer overturned onto the southbound lanes of I-75.
The driver of the BMW sustained fatal injuries and is identified as James Dylan Proctor, according to FHP.
Troopers said the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to Tampa General Hospital with minor injures.
A large portion of the 30,000 gallons of various types of alcoholic beverages spilled onto the highway, FHP said.
Crews are working to clear the tractor trailer and its contents from the highway, FHP said.
