St. Petersburg-(970 WFLA)-City Council was expected to vote on the future of the downtown pier, but has decided to defer that vote for another two weeks.
Council must approve the plan to spend over 1.5 million dollars to move on to the next phase of the new "Lens" pier project. But, after hearing from a lot of people speaking out against the pier at their meeting, council decided to hold off on the vote.
Some members of council are a little worried over spending any more money on the project because the "Stop the lens" group claims it has enough petition signatures to put the new pier issue on a ballot for the voters to decide.
The city plans to start demolition work on the old pier by the end of this month.
