WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Pasco County detecrtives say they began their investigation into missing medication at New River Elementary School in Wesley Chapel after a parent complained about it.
Detectives say, come to find out, clinic assistant Kimberly Dawn Smith had stolen some of the Ritalin and similar-type medication meant for students.
The 39-year-old is charged with possession of a controlled substance. Smith has since resigned.
The district's Linda Cobbe says administrators are reviewing procedures in an effort to ensure this doesn't happen again.
"This was a wake up call. We've never had anything like this happen before," said Cobbe.
