(Yahoo!) - Although it may seem redundant to those who know her simply as "Fergie," the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman is now seeking to make her stage name official. The singer, who has performed for years under the name Fergie, was actually born Stacy Ann Ferguson.
Now the 38-year-old singer is petitioning the court to legally change her name to Fergie Duhamel in a bid that would also see her take the last name of her hubby Josh Duhamel, to whom she's been married for four years.
The documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court say she wants to change her name from Stacy to Fergie because she'd like to "conform to the first name which she is commonly and professionally known as, and has been for many years," TMZ reports and a rep for Fergie confirms.
In order for the request to be granted, the singer must publish a notice in a local newspaper for four consecutive weeks in time for the August 16 hearing, which is scheduled to determine whether her name change will become official.
If she complies, odds are good that the singer, who is expecting her first child with Duhamel, will get her wish and officially become "Fergie" once and for all.
